For my campaign I am working with Cheyenne, Philomena and Farah to donate to WaterAid and the Pete Brennan Memorial Trust.
We originally had the idea of hosting a talent show to raise money but we dropped the idea when we found out that we probably wouldn't have enough time to host it well.
We then decided that we could have a teacher pie toss where students would pay to throw pies in teachers' faces.
We issued each other roles for the campaign, I was the recorder and graphic designer so I was in charge of writing down everything we did and designing things like posters to promote our campaign.
We did some research on the amount of water around the world. We found out some very interesting stuff like:
- One in eight of the world's population does not have access to clean water.
- Over two million people die from water-related diseases every year.
- Worldwide, 2.5 billion people live without access to safe, and clean human waste disposal facilities.
We also studied how pie tosses are held. We found some useful information such as pies are not always used, sometimes alternatives such as wet sponges or shaving cream are used. We decided that we should use shaving cream for our event since it would be cheaper.
I used a variety of skills such as graphic and ICT skills when designing the posters, postcards and animations and I also used my English persuasion skills to promote our event.
The message of out campaign was to get people of all ages to donate to WaterAid since people don't have nearly enough water and we take it for granted. The aim of the posters and WaterAid quiz was to make people feel sorry and guilty so they were more likely to donate to our campaign.
This related to our search because
Our target audience was everyone because this is a big cause and it affects so many people in the world. The pie-toss event was targeted at years 7-11 since they were the people who were to be participating in the event.
We promoted our message by putting up a variety of posters up around the school to promote out event. We also raised awareness by making an informative powerpoint with facts about the amount of water in the world and then we made a fun quiz for years 7-9 to participate in afterwards.
I think our campaign was very successful because we got £61 in total from the event and there was a lot of people that seemed to enjoy it.
